Game Day

I awoke this morning to heavy rains and strong winds. After washing up I went around the inside the house to survey damage from the ongoing storm. Some of the windows and doors have been leaking water from the sheer strength of the storm forcing its way in. Outside my poor fence is in even worse condition. More sections have fallen. Shingles are on the ground again.

Luckily, the eye has past southwest of us (orlando) and moving towards the west coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Cities as far as Jacksonville are still getting tropical storm strength winds like us. We've still got two months of "Hurricane Season", too. I'm actually kind of worried that while we are away in the next couple of weeks that another will hit and we'll have no idea what's happened to the casa.

Anyone say "out of sight, out of mind"?

Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever

So it begins again. Hurricane no.4 is to hit early this morning around 2 am. The last time we had to go thru this the house was boarded up (and dark) and we had very little to do but keep our eyes fixated on the television. That got increasingly boring and even surfing the web became unbearable. Can't go outside and don't want to sit in the house eating the boredom out.

El has to work at the hospital today (7am - 7pm) and they are actually going to allow her to go home for a few hours to shower, eat and unwind before she has to drive back for her second shift tomorrow. They require her to be back by 11pm tonight and spend the night. Good thing we packed her an inflatable bed and sleeping bag along with the laptop with movies. I'd rather be here myself, but with her here. We'll see what happens tonight.

On another topic, it's a good thing I started this blogger. I think I can use it to document our highly anticipated trip to Japan. I'll probably post pictures onto shutterfly.com as well.

I think I'll "hunker down" for now.

Hurricanes Suck!

Aaah sunny Florida. What's not to like? Tourist drivers everywhere. But what's worse than that? FLORIDA drivers. I cannot believe how bad drivers are here. Overly aggressive or inconsiderately slo-o-ow.

But even worse than the humidity and heat during peak summer season is the hurricanes. Welcome back Jeanne! My fourth in 2 months. House is already kinda jacked up. Fence got beat to hell and the roof's shingles have to be replaced. Trees are down and everything is just in a state of disarray. It kind of takes the joy of maintaining your house and yard out. November 30th is officially the end of hurricane season, which has been unusually busy this year. I just wonder if the hurricanes know that.

All I know is that me and El are heading out to the Far East for two weeks in Japan. I'm pretty stoked about it and want to get the hell outta here. Unfortunately, it'll be during the MONSOON season there. Doh! Oh well. Can't have it all.

The Beginning Of Something I Would Never Do

I never thought I'd ever do this. I mean seriously who would post up their ramblings on the web for everyone to see? Much less why would anyone want to read this? I do I guess. So herein lies my first entry into something that I imagine eventually I'll either give up doing after this first entry or forget my login or just think it silly and stop. But nevertheless, here I go. How's the water?

Who am I?
I'm Erick and a designer in Florida. Some of my family and closer friends call me by my parent's nickname, Lek. I'm married to Eleanor (or El as everyone calls her) - let's see some 5 years or so. We've dated since high school (oooh...one of those people). I'm originally from Charleston, SC and went to the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have an older brother and sister and a younger sister.

Now that the short introductions are established I'll sign off! Until we next meet...
