I still can't believe that it's been almost a year and a half since I've been back to Charleston for a visit to see our families. Eleanor had been there previously with Isa to see her mother. After Nicholas' arrival all chances of me going for a visit were pretty much a wrap. We did try taking a short distance trip when he was 3 months old with little success, but because Gabriel's 3rd birthday was coming we decided to take advantage of the trip and spend a few days to visit.
Here Isa reunites with her pushover uncle to relive memories of reckless abandonment.

I usually try to do things as efficiently as possible and this trip was no exception. For Christmas I decided to get new furniture to replace our aging master bedroom set. I decided to refinish it (my first time) to a dark espresso color and replace all the hardware. Quite a bit of work, but the end result was nice. Now to drive it all the way back to SC...
The drive down took almost 8 hours hauling a trailer with furniture, baby clothes, and all of us. Although I left fairly early in the afternoon we didn't arrive until past midnight. Exhausted we slept, but I was up early the next morning to take the furniture to my parents house to unload and reload the trailer with old things to take to the landfill (a horrible experience in itself - I couldn't stop gagging once I got there).

Afterwards we went home to shower and take everyone to dinner at Charley's. It was great that my bro, Rick, got there that weekend. I'd been wanting to see him for quite a long time, but our schedules simply wouldn't allow it. Thank god he came cos he was a huge help with my dad and I and loading and unloading things. After dinner El and I were able to watch a movie, Underworld: Evolution, while the grandparents watched Nico Boy and Isa (they're idea honestly!). I wish El and I had bought a small football helmet for the boy to protect his cheeks from all the kissing he received.
Birthday Boy
Overall it was a nice party for the little guy. Nice job mom and dad! From the look on his face I'd say he was pretty content...or he's pooping in his pants after all that ice cream cake.
