Back In SC For A Visit.

Uncle and Isa

I still can't believe that it's been almost a year and a half since I've been back to Charleston for a visit to see our families. Eleanor had been there previously with Isa to see her mother. After Nicholas' arrival all chances of me going for a visit were pretty much a wrap. We did try taking a short distance trip when he was 3 months old with little success, but because Gabriel's 3rd birthday was coming we decided to take advantage of the trip and spend a few days to visit.

Here Isa reunites with her pushover uncle to relive memories of reckless abandonment.

I usually try to do things as efficiently as possible and this trip was no exception. For Christmas I decided to get new furniture to replace our aging master bedroom set. I decided to refinish it (my first time) to a dark espresso color and replace all the hardware. Quite a bit of work, but the end result was nice. Now to drive it all the way back to SC...

The drive down took almost 8 hours hauling a trailer with furniture, baby clothes, and all of us. Although I left fairly early in the afternoon we didn't arrive until past midnight. Exhausted we slept, but I was up early the next morning to take the furniture to my parents house to unload and reload the trailer with old things to take to the landfill (a horrible experience in itself - I couldn't stop gagging once I got there).

Afterwards we went home to shower and take everyone to dinner at Charley's. It was great that my bro, Rick, got there that weekend. I'd been wanting to see him for quite a long time, but our schedules simply wouldn't allow it. Thank god he came cos he was a huge help with my dad and I and loading and unloading things. After dinner El and I were able to watch a movie, Underworld: Evolution, while the grandparents watched Nico Boy and Isa (they're idea honestly!). I wish El and I had bought a small football helmet for the boy to protect his cheeks from all the kissing he received.

Saturday was Gabriel's birthday party held at the Lowcountry Kid's Museum. A handful of children were on hand to celebrate Gabriel's 3rd birthday.

Overall it was a nice party for the little guy. Nice job mom and dad! From the look on his face I'd say he was pretty content...or he's pooping in his pants after all that ice cream cake.

Kind of a cool place for kids to run around and play in different settings. Isa has her dad's love of fishing and the sea and enjoyed hauling "the day's catch" of seafood on the boat playset.

And what little girl wouldn't enjoy SHOPPING even if it is for groceries? Next time we're back in town we'll bring her back here with her little brother to play in again.

After the party I decided to rally my brother and sister for a tourist sightseeing downtown.
We were able to enjoy the beautiful weather and shoot some photography quickly before heading out for dinner at Vickery's. Thanks for treating out, Rick! Food was great (as usual) and it was a rare moment where we could have a beer together and chat some.

And soon enough Sunday arrived and it was time to pack up and say goodbye. Breakfast was had at my parent's house where we chatted some more for a bit and then hit the road. On the way back I pulled off track and headed into Savannah for a quick look-see.

I tried to stop by the Lady and Sons and say hello to Bobby, Paula and Jamie, but they weren't in. I knew they might be on the road filming or at one of the other restaurants so I had to lame out and leave Bobby a voice message instead. Other than that it brought back a lot of memories for me.

We did some photography and visited a few places (the cathedral where I gave El's enagement ring, Forsyth Park, SCAD). I expected to see alot changed, but other than the touristy Market Street area it all looked relatively unchanged.
